This Saturday sees a historic occasion at Bishopsgate as Longford Town and Kerry FC meet in the league of Ireland for the very first time. However despite this significant meeting between the two clubs, there will be no room for sentiment at Bishopsgate as both sides continue their search for their first wins of the 2023 campaign. Longford have 3 points to their name after the first 6 games of the season whilst the first time visitors Kerry have only managed the 1.
Last time out Stephen Henderson’s men put up yet another spirited performance away to league leaders Galway United. However, unlike the previous 2 away trips to Bray and Waterford and Bray, Longford weren’t able to take anything from the game as former Town winger Darren Clarke seen his effort take a huge deflection on its way passed keeper Jack Brady. Town faithful will be hoping Henderson’s men will be able to turn a solid performance into goals and a much-needed win at Bishopsgate this Saturday.
As for Kerry FC they continue to feel their way into life as a league of Ireland club. Last time out for Kerry a late goal from substitute Valerij Dolia gave Athlone Town the victory at a windy and rainy Mounthawk Park last Friday night. Kerry, who have yet to record a victory in the league, will have been disappointed that they failed to earn at least a point from the game as they managed to create plenty of opportunities. Despite this Kerry will maintain their hope and optimism as they travel to Bishopsgate this Saturday and I’m sure Stephen Henderson and his players will be on high alert from the first whistle.
