We are delighted to confirm our next three Legends who will be playing in the Longford Town Legends v Manchester United Legends game on June 15th at Bishopsgate.
Stephen ‘Digger’ O’Brien returns for De Town! Often regarded as one of our best ever goalkeepers, O’Brien, who made 140 appearances for De Town, was a mainstay between the sticks from 2000-2006. A 2-time FAI Cup winner, being captain on the second occasion. He also won a League Cup Winners medal in 2003 and played in the UEFA Cup with Longford.
Willie Tyrell signed for Tony Cousins at Longford Town in January 2013. He went on to make twenty-two appearances for the club, scoring twice, as Longford lost out to Bray Wanderers in the play-offs. He played fourteen times in the First Division, before a leg injury ruled him out for the rest of the season, as Longford won the First Division title and were promoted. Willie re-signed for the club for the 2015 season in the Premier Division and went on to make ten league appearances for the club.
Pauric Fitzpatrick aka Alias Fitz will don the red and black one last time! Grew up in Teffia Park where he learned his trade on the Teffia green like many others. Played underage with Longford Town right up to senior, cumulating with a player of the year award in the 78/79 season between the sticks. A huge passion for football and music. Fitzy founded Melivew Rovers and subsequently founded Melivew Football club in the early noughties. A club that has since gone on to produce some local stars…After hanging up the boots Fitzy took to the terraces, following Longford town home and away, seen here with wife Ann. He’s also picked up the guitar on many occasions for De Town having previously played at end of season dinner dances and in the 2014 season, where Longford Town won the First Division, releasing the song βGet behind the Town’
