We are delighted to confirm our for the Longford Town Legends v Manchester United Legends game on June 15th at Bishopsgate.
Former Ireland manager 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗞𝗲𝗻𝗻𝘆 returns to where it all began back in 1998 when he takes over the reins of De Town Legends. In the summer of 1998, Kenny became the youngest manager in League history when he took over Longford Town at the age of 26. He led Longford to huge success during his three-year tenure as we won promotion to the League of Ireland Premier Division for the first time and subsequently reached the 2001 FAI Cup Final, qualifying for the 2001–02 UEFA Cup. What Stephen went on to achieve following his departure from De Town is in the history books as the Dubliner found huge success as a manager at multiple clubs, in particular Dundalk, before becoming Ireland manager.
Our United Legends Manager is none other than 𝗠𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻. While known for his coaching career, Phelan was also an accomplished footballer, having made 102 appearances for Man United from 1989 to 1994, he also made over 100+ appearances for Burnley and Norwich. Mike took up a role at Manchester United’s Centre of Excellence in 2000. Following Steve McClaren’s departure to Middlesbrough in the summer of 2001, Phelan was promoted to first-team coach. He was appointed assistant manager of United on 3 September 2008, replacing Carlos Queiroz. He was Alex Ferguson’s right-hand man for three Premier League titles, a FIFA Club World Cup, two League Cups, and two runs to the final of the UEFA Champions League. He departed the club shortly after Ferguson’s retirement. On 19 December 2018, Phelan was appointed as a first-team coach for Manchester United’s caretaker manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjær. On 10 May, he was appointed as United’s assistant manager for the second time.
