Match Preview | Waterford FC v Longford Town | 1.04.22

Longford Town FC head to the RSC on Friday night to take on Waterford in a highly anticipated clash between two teams who will be hoping to fight it out at the top of the SSE Airtricity League First Division table come the end of the season.

The home side are coming off two losses on the bounce, a 2-0 loss away to Cork City and a 2-1 defeat away to Treaty United. They did have a man sent off in Limerick but many would have expected the ‘Blues’ to pick up something against Tommy Barrett’s side. Waterford manager Ian Morris will certainly be looking for a reaction from his players with the arrival of Longford Town tomorrow evening.

Morris’ counterpart Gary Cronin looked for a reaction from his players only two weeks ago when they lost out to Bray at Bishopsgate and he got just that. A dominant 3-0 win away to Wexford in Ferrycarrig was followed up with a brilliant 2-1 win at home to John Caulfield’s Galway United last Friday night. De Town will be hoping they can continue this run and take 3 points off what many would consider to be the ‘title favourites’ this year.

Team News

Waterford: Waterford have no injury worries (that we know of) and are boosted with the return of Killian Cantwell to training in recent weeks.

Longford Town: Aaron McCabe and Cristian Magerusan are still a number of weeks away from being ready to play after recent injuries.
