The FAI have established a new initiative for SSE Airtricity League clubs which involves the underage players of the league clubs participating in coaching education courses, the results of which, are that these underage players obtain coaching licences for training players up to the under twelve category.
This initiative was recently piloted at the City Calling Stadium, the home of Longford Town FC. The course concluded with Longford Town FC Under 19, Under 17, and Under 15 players graduating with FAI coaching badges.
The Under 19's and Under 17's obtained their D licences and the Under 15's received certificates for the PDP 1.
Regional Development Officer for Longford, Graham Kane, FAI Coach Education Officer Richie Smith, and Longford Town FC coaches were all in attendance for the Graduation Day at the City Calling Stadium.
Sam Barnes, who hails from Carrick-on-Shannon is the Longford Town Under 17 captain and he spoke with Tony Ghee about the big day and the players achievement of becoming qualified coaches.
