Our Under 19's preparations for the coming season are in full swing as the boys ready themselves for the opening weekend in four weeks time. The group have spent the past two weekends competing in The Lee Brothers Cup, running out eventual winners in a tournament hosted by Dublin AUL senior outfit Palmerstown FC, with senior sides from St Pats Phoenix and Glenville FC making up the four team tournament.
Our lads faced the hosts in their semi final fixture. The group availed of an early opportunity for some team bonding by spending some time in a Dublin hotel that weekend, getting some precious time on the training ground and relaxing ahead of the fixture. The game was a great contest, one which we trailed twice in, with Karl Malone and Dylan McKeever both levelling the scores in a 2-2 draw before The Town ran out 5-4 winners in a penalty shoot out with Paul Kennedy securing the decisive score.
This past weekend saw our young boys face St Pats Phoenix in the final. A header from Player of The Tournament Dean Murphy either side of two own goals from Phoenix defenders saw our boys run out 3-0 winners after an impressive display. Captain Aaron Brilly lifted the trophy and afterwards manager Mark Connors was happy with both the workouts, both of which were watched by first team manager Tony Cousins. "It's been a good two weekends for us. We played two good competitive games and the boys have had a chance to get some important game time. Where a work in progress but the lads are working hard and taking on board the information were given them"
Everyone involved with the 19's would like to thank Palmerstown FC and in particular Derek Kavanagh for the wonderful welcome and hospitality we received throughout our time at the Lee Brothers Cup. End!
