Supporters’ Club Notes (11/09/16)

Sun Sep 11th 2016

Alan Mathews' return to Longford Town didn't produce the hoped for three points as we edge ever closer to the dreaded drop. Ciaran Mullooly, fresh from his trip to Barcelona's Camp Nou was among the crowd but if he was expecting a sporting scoop, he, like the rest of us left disappointed. In fairness we did show some flair but when we gave away a sloppy goal before the break, the remainder of the game became more and more of a mountain to climb. Their second goal was a real killer punch. The 2-0 home defeat was bad enough but this was our first defeat to Bray in two years makes it feel even worse. The evenings are getting darker and so too are our prospects.

This Friday night, we travel north to Finn Park to see if we can snatch a win. As always, it's a difficult place to get anything and the hosts will be looking on the game as a certainty for three valuable points as they consolidate their status for next season. But miracles do happen and you'd just never know.

Congrats to Eddie Dsane who received his award after the game on Saturday night last. With the change of management, the players were brought into the dressing rooms earlier than expected so we were caught out. Eddie was clearly delighted with his award and wondered if he could keep it ! We may not be the richest supporters' club in the land but we don't recycle the monthly trophies...yet.

This Monday night, September 12th at 7.30pm, the Supporters' Club will be having a meeting in the Clubhouse. If you can be there, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Fair play to Avril Gilchrist who organized a superb team of ball boys for the game against Bray.....they looked incredibly professional and well organized.....but we missed you at half time in the Clubhouse....even Superwoman can't be in two places at once.......also sorely missed was Johnny Nevin who has taken up an old traditional hobby....letter writing......De Town will be well represented in sunnier climes this week....enjoy it Mags and Liam.......and yet another one, sorely missed from the sidelines was star snapper Frank McGrath who decided to shoot some horses for a change....and finally, best of luck to our younger supporters who receive their Junior Cert results this Wednesday.
