There's a song about the West being awake, well we were asleep over there on Friday night, going down 4-2 to a lively Galway side. It wasn't until the final part of the game that we woke from our slumber to score twice, both from Dean Kelly. Incredibly though, we remain in 7th position in the league. But with all teams below us adding to their tally except Derry, it's clear that the final games are all going to be like Cup finals. Many supporters left Galway feeling bitterly disappointed but we know there's more in the tank. We simply have to support them for every single second of each remaining League game; it's as simple as that.
SHERIFF IN TOWN
On Friday night we welcome Sheriff YC to the City Calling Stadium for the FAI Cup Quarter Final. Seemingly we're playing on Friday night to lessen the period of time to a replay the following week, should a replay be necessary. But everyone hopes there won't be any need to head back up to Dublin on a Monday or Tuesday night. Although, Sheriff will be no push over, we got the draw most would have wished for. It's now up those on the pitch and ourselves around the grounds to make sure we get a result and into the draw for the semi finals. After that who knows what can happen. Then it's Bohs away in the league the following Friday.
This Tuesday night 8th September we entertain Shamrock Rovers in the Leinster Senior Cup, quarter final, kick off 7.45pm. Being brutally honest, it's not the most important game of our season. A good spirited display with no injuries might be good enough, but a win would be even better.
PLAYER OF THE MONTH/AUGUST
Lorcan Shannon is Player of the Month for August and depending on when we get the trophy, depends on when Lorcan will get it. If super efficient, then the presentation will be before the Tuesday game, if not, the presentation will take place before the Cup game on Friday night.
