On a night too wet even for ducks, 10 man Longford Town secured a valuable point while under constant siege from Derry City. Also before kick off, Kevin O'Connor received his award from April player of the month award from Anthony Carr as some fans huddled under warm hand-made red and black rugs and in the Clubhouse, M. C Farrell welcomed some suitably impressed guests from PSV Eindoven, Holland. Former Town manager Stephen was given a warm welcome as he took his seat in the stand as he cast a cold eye over De Town ahead of next week's Town V Dundalk clash.
If only we could have bottled all the water that fell on the City Calling Stadium tonight, we could have made enough profit to cover the entire seated area. Full credit to the players of both sides who did their very best on a sodden surface; at times it was like watching water polo.
Section O are among the most famous of all supporters in Ireland but on Saturday night, they really went beyond the call of duty. Singing, chanting and shouting their hearts out while the monsoon rain bucketed down in continuous torrents. Some may have sought refuge in the stand but this group of Section O stayed "singing in the rain" until the 94th minute. Fair play.
