Yet again the odd goal was the difference as Town faced a Dublin club, narrowly going down to a 3-2 defeat to Bohemians at City Calling Stadium. The visitors started much the brighter and were ahead within 5 minutes through a wonderful free-kick bent over the wall and into the top corner.
The home side were a bit stunned by this & found themselves two down before they could even get going. Again a free kick on the edge, this time a right footed player, same result. Soon after Bohs hit the post before midway through the half Town started to come into it & began applying pressure without creating anything clear cut. In the 47th min of the first half that pressure payed off. Luke Walsh saw his wonderful free-kick effort crash off the underside of the bar but as it came out the excellent Karl Chambers reacted quickest to head home and half the deficit at the Break. Within minutes of the restart Bohs recovered there two goal advantage following some good play down the right, a couple of poor defensive clearences and a goal mouth scramble somehow the ball ended up in the net.
From there it was a very entertaining game and went end to end. Not to be out done by the Bohs first half goals, Luke Walsh curled a 25 yard free kick Into the far top corner to make it 3-2 with twenty minutes remaining and from there it could have went anyway. Town piled on the pressure with numerous free kicks and dangerous areas. Bohs looked dangerous on the break.
Niall Swan had Town's best chance late on. He latched onto a great ball for Gary Naghten but somehow didn't manage to connect cleanly with it when it sat up for him 12 yards out. Next up for our lads is the Midlands Derby v Athlone on Sunday October 11th 1pm at City Calling Stadium.
Player thoughts - Captain for the day Darragh Doherty
We were a bit down after two bad previous games, we knew we had to bounce back, we had a game plan to win the game and we were confident. we were disappointed to conceded two free kicks in the first few minutes but fought back into the game and got ourselves a lifeline with a goal just before half time, unfortunately we then conceded another bad goal just 4 minutes into the second half but managed to bounce back again scoring a great free kick by Walshy. From then, we were unlucky not to get something from the game I thought but we have a week off now to get back into good form and go into the next few games looking to improve.
