There were many emotions floating around in Cobh on Saturday night and none of them positive. To have travelled so far and to have the game called off at the last minute was, to put it mildly, extremely frustrating. They're having more than their fair share of rain down south but the timing of the announcement was as bad as the rain. Some supporters had travelled down on Friday evening, while others had arranged to stay over on the Saturday night. The expense of buses for both the team and supporters was also significant. Last season, Cobh featured in the memories of Town supporters for both highs and lows and with this season's late, late no show, it looks like Cobh is going to be etched in our memories for a while longer.
WATERFORD AT HOME
On Saturday night we welcome Waterford to the City Calling Stadium. We don't need any reminders to tell us that games between the clubs are always tight affairs and Saturday night will probably be just the same. The Blues have a decent team which has yet to kick start properly but hopefully, they'll delay that start for an other week end against different opposition. Though, the game will be played in April, this is just our second home game of the season. We deserved a share of the points against current joint leaders, Shelbourne on our opening home night but we have to fight to get what we deserve. It's not going to be easy but if a decent crowd turn up and get behind the team from the start, then that 12th man could make all the difference.
PLAYER OF THE MONTH/MARCH
It's time to text your nomination for the first player of the month award. Until, we come up with a better plan, you can text your nomination along with your own name to 087 989 6269 and please do so before this Wednesday evening, April 2nd. The Wednesday evening line is to allow us have the trophy inscribed with the winner's name. The trophy will then be awarded before the game on Saturday night.
The Supporters' Club AGM is scheduled for Monday night March 31st at 8pm sharp in the Clubhouse. With some committee members taking the early retirement package, some key vacancies will be available. The pay and conditions are less than basic and the rewards are hardly to die for but for volunteerism at its best, you won't beat it. And as the Transfusion Board might say, we could do with some new , so how's about you.
CAR BOOT SALE
Our next Car Boot Sale will be on May day, Monday May 5th at the City Calling Stadium car park 10am-3pm. Our first event of the season was an outstanding success and this one promies to be even better. You still have a few weeks to gather up some things and turn them into good cash.
On Friday April 4th Cobh travel to Galway , where hopefully they'll have a game. Over in the west, they're hoping this game will be their first win of the season. On the same night there's a top of the table clash in Dublin between Shels and Finn Harps, where we'd like to see a draw. Meanwhile the B Shamrock Rovers outfit travel down the N11 to take on the Youths of Wexford. Then it's all eyes on the City Calling Stadium for the battle of the Fords on Saturday night.
