It's that time of the week again where everyone at Section O says hello from the far side of the ground and what a long week it's been with no league game due to the cup break. On Tuesday night last however, we had some cup action of our own as a new and youthful looking Town side took on the might of League of Ireland champions, St Patrick's Athletic. After a slow burner of a first half in which the Dublin side took the lead, we finally burst into action in the second forty-five with a very spirited performance and as a result the Section O faithful, who it must be said turned out in great numbers on the night, were rewarded with a Tom Morris goal with Tomo celebrating In fine style. Unfortunately it wasn't to be enough as Liam Buckley's men took the Leinster Senior Cup back to Inchicore but plenty of encouraging signs ahead of a huge end to the season for Cousins’ men.
Title march starts here
After the injustice and anger which followed the Wexford Youths debacle at City Calling Stadium almost a fortnight ago, perhaps it has worked out well that we have had a week to recover for Cobh Ramblers this Saturday at City Calling. Despite the draw with Youths the equation is simple, four wins from our remaining league games and we are champions. After seven years in the First Division our fans have wanted to be in a position like this for a long long time and now that it is a reality what we need more than anything is your support, so c'mon down to the Strokestown Road this Saturday evening for the 7-30PM kick-off and get behind De Town from the off because your support could very well be the difference between Premier Division football and another trip to Cobh next season!
As every game is a cup final at this stage, after tonight’s game our next most important game of the season is on Friday, the 26thdown in Waterford. Following on from the huge Longford contingent that descended on Tolka Park a few weeks ago despite having to change their plans at the last minute, we are hopeful that the same if not more will make the trip south on Friday to cheer on the lads to hopefully 3 vital points. To book your place on the bus text Kieran on 0831670304 asap to give us an idea of numbers!
Gone to the dogs
I'm sure that headline is a phrase we've used in Section O many times over the last seven years in particular but this Friday night we are quite literally going to the dogs as Longford Town FC hold a race night at the Longford greyhound stadium. With the pressure and strain of the title run in starting to hit, Friday night offers all Longford Town fans a chance to get out and enjoy some other sporting action 24 hours before the big game on Saturday night. Proceeds for the night are going to the Longford Town FC youth development fund, because after all it's all about the future! Tickets are €10 and can still be purchased by contacting any Longford Town or Section O committee member.
Fantasy Premier League 2014
Just a quick update on the Supporter’s club fantasy league! We are happy to announce that a prize fund of €300 will be shared among the top three at the end of the season with the same amount raised for the club! It is obviously a long way to go before then but the three currently in the top spots are Michael Dinneen, Seamus Leavy and Paddy Mc Garry!
While this weekend is a much anticipated one for all LTFC fans with the night at the dogs and the Cobh Ramblers match, we at Section O haven't forgotten De Town's under-19's team who kicked off their season last weekend with a spirited display at the famous Brandywell Stadium. Since then Mark Connors team have also gone up against one of our senior team’s great rivals this season in the form of Shelbourne and despite a 1-0 home defeat, ''Sparky'' and his back room staff can look forward to the rest of the newly formatted under-19 season with great hope and expectation and we encourage as many of you as possible to take in at least one under-age game this campaign as you very well could be looking at the next crop of red and black youngsters right on your doorstep.
As always you can keep right up to date with all things Longford Town FC and Section O by following us on Twitter @Section_O_ltfc while we are also on the old reliable Facebook.
