Longford Town FC Press Release

Wed Oct 30th 2013

Will it be 90th Anniversary celebrations for Longford Town FC?

Longford Town FC are delighted with the team's progress in the last couple of weeks since the pressure has come on. After a superb performance in the Carlisle grounds on Monday night, the playoff is now wide open. All connected with LTFC are very aware of the threat posed by Bray Wanderers. They will not give up their Premier League status without a fight. However the LTFC committee have been working hard behind the scenes for a number of years now to make Premier league football a reality for the Club once again.

City Calling Stadium is now one of the best grounds in the Airtricity League. Tony Cousins has put his faith in youth in recent games and thus far it has paid dividents. Maybe it's the year of youth - just look at what Clare hurlers achieved!  It would be fantastic if Longford Town FC could regain it's Premier League status just in time for the Club's 90th annniversity celebrations in 2014!

We would also like to note the wonderful nationwide positive response to Longford Town's fantastic achievements in the past couple of weeks. (Even trending on Twitter). Irish people love to see a team which displays a never say die attitude! That certainly has been true of Tony Cousin's Red and Black army in recent games.

However it is now time for the people of Longford to show their support for Tony and a fantastic bunch of lads. Club Secretary Carmel Browne said "We would now respectfully ask all Longford businesses to fly Longford Town's red and black colours proudly in the coming days and ask everyone to come to City Calling on Friday".

Maybe Longford Chamber of Commerce could help out and provide some colour in the town as they did so successfully in promoting Mayo for the All Ireland Football Final.

LTFC now need Longford people supporting Longford! Club Chairman Jim Hanley suggested "When we had a successful run in the 2000's we were known as the 'community club' and we were the envy of every other club in the League. Maybe now is a good time for local businesses to get behind the team again. Tony and the lads are bringing a lot of pride back to Longford and that could help lift the doom and gloom".

"C'mon De Town" - let us get the Lion's Roar back in City Calling Stadium on Friday night..

Don't forget to wear the RED and BLACK...
