Farewell and best wishes…

Wed Nov 5th 2014

At this time of year there is always a feeling of regret as some players move on. This season is no different. All at Longford Town FC would like to express their gratitude to goalkeeper Chris Bennion, defender Glen O'Connor, winger Etanda Nkololo, and striker Peter Hynes who have left the club. All four played key roles for the Town during the season. (Some of them for a couple of years). They were a big part of the drive for promotion and were involved in many unforgettable moments during the year.

Who will forget Etanda's wonder goal from the edge of the area in the RSC, which secured a 2-1 victory over Waterford? Or Glen's crunching tackles in numerous games and his fantastic last minute free-kick against Finn Harps which secured 3 invaluable points.

Peter's contribution regularly proved to be game changing most notably (in recent games) in the dramatic game against Wexford at the City Calling Stadium when his deft passes put Sully in the clear to score the crucial goal.

Benno 'saved' the best until last and proved he is still a top class keeper with his brilliant penalty save at Ballybofey in the final game of the season. Thanks for the wonderful memories lads, best wishes and good luck for the future. You will always be welcome in Longford!!

Noel Haverty, another player who has had tremendous performances for Longford Town for three seasons is also moving on due to work commitments. Noel is a fantastic player who was selected on the First Division team of the year for two years in a row. He has worked extremely hard to overcome serious injures in his time with Longford and no matter what position he was selected in, he always gave 110%. A true Town star! You will be missed Noel. Best of luck with your future career.
