De Nollaig Notes

Mon Dec 7th 2015

There was a full house in the Longford Arms Hotel last Saturday night for the annual Red and Black awards gala. Conditions were wet and stormy outside but there wasn't a single cancellation which speaks volumes for the dedication and commitment of the assembled supporters, team, management and sponsors. From start to finish it was truly a fabulous night with everything running like clockwork. Great credit is due to Andy Dardis and Liam Healion, the hotel management and everyone who made the night such a memorable occasion.

Kevin O;Connor was presented with two trophies, Player of the Season and Goal of the Season. He could have received another award for his short, witty and humorous speech afterwards. The Player of the Season trophy is in honour of the late Bernard Oates while the Goal of the season trophy is awarded in memory of Enda Muldowney, both great supporters and both of whom died far too young but never forgotten.

Rhys Gorman was the winner of the Young Player of the Season award. Emmett Ryan, Clubhouse manager was the recipient of a special award for his many years of dedicated, voluntary work in maintaining the Clubhouse as one of the finest in the League.

Jim Hanley, Phil Munnelly and Tony Cousins who are the real driving forces behind the Club spoke passionately about the successful season just over and about what we all hope will be another season of success in 2016. It's obvious that the Big Three work so well together for the future of our club, a future that looks rosy and red and black.

A comprehensive collection of photos covering all the presentations and much more is on the Club website.

The next Lotto draw will be held in the first week of January 2016. Our stand in the Shopping Centre is given over to other worthy causes during the festive season but we'll be back next month.

The Red and Black awards night may be over and the Lotto is taking a rest till next month but the show still trundles on. For just €2, you can win a fabulous Christmas Hamper valued at €200. There are numerous other prizes to be won in what is always a well supported Christmas raffle. The tickets are two euro each or a book of six tickets for ten euro. Any Supporters' Club member has tickets or of course you can purchase them at either the pop up shop or at our stand at the Christmas Festival in Connolly Bks. The draw for the raffle winners takes place on December 22nd at Andy Byrne's bar at 8pm and as well as the raffle draw there will be plenty of extra goodies available and as usual the craic will be only mighty.

Our Christmas shop has just popped up in Ballymahon St and is located beside Joe Durkins and the Hallmark card shop. The new gear as well as a varied amount of merchandise is available. Check it out between 12 noon and 6pm. Huge thanks to Tom Madden who provided us with the shop space at no cost, it's really appreciated, many thanks.

Full credit to those behind the Longford Christmas Festival who are doing their very best for the town. De Town is supporting the venture and we have a stall there again this weekend. Drop in and say hello, pick up a hamper ticket and maybe a top or two for next year's trip to Finn Park, Wexford and other far flung exotic destinations.
